Team Nigeria defeated its Rwandan team in three runs on Saturday in the final group match of the Nigerian women’s T20 invitational cricket tournament.
Both countries won their previous three games, but Rwanda was on the table with a better net run in the five-country event.
The victory means the hosts are perfect after beating their other four riders – Ghana, Gambia, Sierra Leone, and now Rwanda.
In the match at Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval in Lagos, Nigeria won the toss and chose the first bat.
Rwanda’s field strategy emerged as 37th on the International Cricket Council due to early pressure as the goal was already knocked out in the second phase.
But Salome Sunday, who was sent in fourth place, was able to stabilize the boat, scoring 63 runs for 58 balls.
His effort was enough to get Nigeria 117 for losing six goals in 20 passes.
Rwanda took the field in the second inning and scored 114 runs, losing six in 20 over.
At the end of the match, Nigeria’s deputy captain Omonye Asika said the team was ready to face off against his opponent, Rwanda, in Sunday’s event.
“We are ready for tomorrow’s match. We just gave them a try to see what they can expect in the next match, ”he said.
The Rwandan team captain Diane Bimenyimana, for his part, praised his team for the effort, adding that they would come out stronger in their next match.
Sunday’s draw will decide the winner of the tournament.
