The New York Rangers have faced injury challenges throughout this preseason. Key defenseman Ryan Lindgren is expected to miss significant time, while star winger Artemi Panarin is also on the mend. Adding to their woes, veteran winger recently left a training camp practice with a lower-body injury, further depleting the team’s forward depth.

He exited Rangers practice with an injury

Vesey left the Rangers’ practice on Sunday and is currently being assessed for a lower-body injury, according to Mollie Walker of The New York Post. With competition heating up for spots in the bottom six, Vesey is battling for a place on the fourth line. Missing time due to this injury could hurt his chances of securing a lineup spot.

Rangers hope to pick up Peter Laviolette's system quickly

However, there is optimism that the injury isn’t serious. Head coach Peter Laviolette mentioned to Walker that it doesn’t appear to be severe, saying, “It seemed somewhat harmless.”

Vesey played a key role for the Rangers last season

Last season, Vesey was a key player for the Rangers, appearing in 80 of 82 regular-season games. The 31-year-old forward recorded 26 points (13 goals and 13 assists) while averaging 12:23 of ice time per game.

It’s uncertain whether Vesey will be a regular in the lineup this season, as his spot may depend on the performance of the team’s other depth forwards during training camp and preseason. While his veteran presence is valuable, the potential and youth of players like Matt Rempe or Adam Edstrom might make them more crucial to include regularly.
