Having already acquired JD Martinez in the offseason, the New York Mets are now adding another player from the Boston Red Sox’s 2018 World Series team.

According to Sean W. Alcide of FanSided, the Mets are signing veteran outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. to a minor league contract. Bradley will start at Triple-A Syracuse.

At 34, Bradley is a former All-Star who won the 2018 World Series with the Red Sox, earning ALCS MVP honors and a Gold Glove that same year. After leaving Boston in free agency to join the Milwaukee Brewers in 2021, Bradley returned to Boston in 2022, then played for the Toronto Blue Jays and the Kansas City Royals. The Mets will be his fifth team in three years.

Expectations for Bradley are modest, given his dismal .133 average and sub-.400 OPS with the Royals last season. However, his recent performance in the Atlantic League, where he hit .400 with 12 home runs and 35 RBIs over 40 games, suggests he might still have something to contribute.

The Mets, currently holding a Wild Card spot in the NL at 51-48, have been performing well recently. With the trade deadline approaching, they are unlikely to make significant moves, and it seems probable that they will retain this experienced bat.
