Moore led the Royals to the World Series in 2014 and 2015 as general manager, securing the championship in 2015 with Getz serving as a baseball operations assistant in player development. Moore also collaborated closely with Venable, who was associate manager for Bruce Bochy during two seasons, including the Rangers’ first championship win in 2023.

The alignment goes beyond just Getz and Venable. Getz has also brought in assistant general managers Josh Barfield and Jin Wong, senior advisor to pitching Brian Bannister, and director of player personnel Gene Watson. Additionally, David Keller was appointed to oversee international scouting, and Ryan Fuller joined as director of hitting this past year.

At 41, Getz has been reorganizing the research and development team to strengthen the organization, while also focusing on internal talent development. Despite the challenge of rebounding from 222 combined losses over the past two seasons—including a record-setting 121 losses in 2024—the foundation of the team lies in the relationship between the manager and general manager.

“There are so many daily decisions as a general manager, and in this short time, I’ve found I’m comfortable discussing any of them with Will,” Getz said. “That’s exactly what I wanted—a partner. It’s a promising start that it feels so natural.”

“He’s joining a bright front office led by Chris Getz,” Moore said of Venable. “Will Venable is ready for the challenge of restoring the White Sox to the standards Jerry Reinsdorf expects and ultimately winning another World Series. That’s how Will Venable is built.”

The role of a first-year manager has its own set of challenges, especially for a team more focused on developing young talent than immediate victories. Venable, 42, has strong communication skills that will help set the tone.

“The key to all of this is how you connect with people,” Moore said. “What I admired about Bobby Cox was his way with people; strategy wasn’t what stood out. With Ned Yost, it was how he inspired people and his competitive spirit. And with Bruce Bochy, it’s his genuine care for people. Those are qualities Will has.”

“There will be a learning curve, but giving each other grace through the process is key. This allows Venable to grow, be fearless, and work with Getzie, the front office, and Jerry to build something truly special, continuing to improve as they go.”
