Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer, both multi-time Cy Young Award winners, are set to rejoin the Texas Rangers’ starting rotation after completing their rehab assignments, according to manager Bruce Bochy’s announcement on Sunday.
“Jacob is expected to start soon,” Bochy said of the two-time Cy Young winner deGrom. “The same applies to Max. Both had strong outings.”

Bochy noted that the exact return dates for deGrom and Scherzer are still being finalized, with deGrom possibly returning on Friday during the second game of the series in Seattle.
“We’ll have a confirmed schedule in the next couple of days,” Bochy added.
This would mark deGrom’s first major league game since April 28, 2023, when he exited his sixth start with the Rangers and subsequently underwent elbow surgery. On Saturday, he threw 49 pitches for Double-A Frisco, primarily focusing on off-speed pitches.
“I’m really excited to be back out there,” deGrom said. “This is the next step—facing big league hitters again.”
Scherzer, who threw 59 pitches for Triple-A Round Rock in Las Vegas on Saturday, completed four scoreless innings and struck out eight of the 14 batters he faced.
The 40-year-old has been sidelined due to right shoulder fatigue and a nerve issue, with his last major league appearance on July 30. Scherzer currently holds a 2-4 record with a 3.89 ERA over 39 1/3 innings pitched in eight starts.
