The San Francisco Giants kicked off the week with three more roster moves in the upper minors. According to the team’s transaction log, 2017 NL All-Star Jake Lamb and Brett Auerbach were released from the Triple-A squad, while Dylan Cumming was let go from the Double-A team.

The Giants made several notable moves in their upper minor league system, led by Bryce Eldridge’s promotion to Triple-A with the Sacramento River Cats. Joining him at that level is teammate Trent Harris.

Jake Lamb’s recent release appeared to signal Eldridge’s impending promotion. Lamb, a veteran infielder, primarily played first base for the River Cats, and his departure opened a spot for Eldridge on the roster.

Lamb had initially signed a minor league deal with the Giants that included an invite to spring training. While he has mostly played first base in recent years—an awkward fit for San Francisco’s system—his left-handed bat provided some balance in an organization lacking upper-level lefty hitters.

Though Lamb got significant playing time during spring training—a sign he was under serious evaluation—he didn’t make the Opening Day roster. Instead, he went to Triple-A, where he posted a .706 OPS with two home runs and 20 RBIs over 176 plate appearances.

Brett Auerbach, once a promising prospect and recipient of the 2022 Barney Nugent Award, has seen a shift in his role. Formerly a utility player with experience at nearly every position, including catcher, he played much less behind the plate as he moved up the ranks. He struggled against higher-level pitching but managed a .722 OPS with four home runs and 14 RBIs in 148 plate appearances for Sacramento this year.

Among the recent roster cuts was Dylan Cumming, a right-handed pitcher signed by the Giants as an undrafted free agent from Liberty University in 2023. Across three minor league levels, he has compiled a solid 3.63 ERA. This season with Double-A Richmond, he posted a 4.05 ERA in 14 appearances.

Additionally, the Giants released reliever Nick Garcia from the Richmond roster over the weekend.
