The San Francisco Giants are stepping into a new chapter with Buster Posey now overseeing baseball operations. One of the team’s major offseason targets could be free-agent shortstop, who ranks among MLB’s top available players.

He is the leading shortstop on the market, and multiple teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves, are reportedly looking to upgrade at that position. With his openness to potentially switch positions, He is expected to draw strong interest from many clubs.

His appeal is heightened by a standout 2024 season, in which he hit .251/.331/.462, setting career highs in home runs (32), doubles (33), RBIs (112), runs (93), and steals (21) over 688 plate appearances. This marked his fifth season with at least 20 home runs since his debut in 2018.

The Giants have shown interest in Adames since last winter, when the Milwaukee Brewers were rumored to be considering a trade. Posey also recently confirmed the Giants’ intent to pursue a shortstop this offseason.

Danny Demilio from PGH Baseball Now predicted Adames would land with the Giants, a view echoed by most MLB.com analysts. Adames’ final contract is likely to hinge on the intensity of bidding, but a deal worth at least $150 million is expected, with CBS Sports’ R.J. Anderson projecting a seven-year, $185 million contract.
