The Boston Red Sox struck gold with Roman Anthony, locking him up on a highly team-friendly eight-year, $130 million contract. If he continues to perform as expected — and all signs suggest he will — an even larger payday could be waiting down the road.
Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller echoed that sentiment, projecting that Anthony could command a $250 million extension for his next deal.

“Boston bought out Anthony’s twenties on a big extension shortly after his MLB debut, but it’s entirely possible he earns an even bigger one if this deal ends up looking laughably cheap over the next decade,” Miller wrote.
In his rookie campaign, Anthony hit .292/.396/.463 with 18 doubles, eight home runs, and 32 RBI over 71 games. He was the spark that powered the Red Sox offense — and once he suffered a season-ending oblique injury, Boston’s lineup noticeably struggled without him.

Next year, with a full season ahead and valuable experience under his belt, Anthony could emerge as an MVP contender. If that happens, Miller’s prediction may not be far off — and hopefully, the Red Sox won’t repeat their 2019 mistake, ensuring Anthony remains in Boston for the long haul.
