When veteran Philadelphia Eagles edge rusher Brandon Graham suffered a torn triceps in Week 12, it appeared not only that his season was over but also that his time in Philadelphia might be coming to an end.

ESPN’s Tim McManus reported on November 24 that Graham confirmed he would miss the rest of the season after sustaining the injury during the Eagles’ 37-20 win over the Los Angeles Rams. A longtime team captain, Graham has spent his entire 15-year NFL career in Philadelphia.

At 36 years old, Graham is playing on a one-year, $4 million contract signed in March 2024. Now, against expectations, he could make a surprise return when the Eagles take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on February 9.

PHLY’s Zach Berman provided an update on January 28, noting that there was “no firm update” on Graham’s status, with the veteran saying he is taking things “one day at a time.”

“I haven’t heard anything, man,” Graham said. “I’m just excited to be here, excited for this team, excited for this moment. … I feel good. … This has been the easiest injury I’ve had. Upper body stuff is a little easier. … I’m focused on building muscle, getting stronger, and making sure I don’t re-injure it. We’ll see what the doctors say and go from there.”

Graham Trying to Play in Third Super Bowl

Brandon Graham has appeared in the Super Bowl twice with the Eagles. His pivotal strip sack of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady with 2:21 left in Super Bowl LII helped secure Philadelphia’s first-ever Super Bowl victory.

He also played in the Eagles’ 38-35 loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII after the 2022 season.

Before his injury, Graham recorded 3.5 sacks during the season, including one against Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford in Week 12.

A former Michigan standout, Graham was named the Big Ten’s Most Valuable Player in 2009 and was selected by the Eagles 16th overall in the 2010 NFL Draft. He earned NFL All-Pro honors in 2016 and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2020.

Through the 2024 season, Graham has accumulated $97.7 million in career earnings.

Eagles Could Lose Multiple Edge Rushers in 2025

Despite having the NFL’s top defense in 2024, the Eagles lacked a dominant edge rusher outside of Josh Sweat, who, along with Brandon Graham, could be on his way out next season.

While Nolan Smith is a promising young talent on the edge, Sweat remains the key force in the Eagles’ pass rush.

According to Pro Football Network, Sweat is ranked as the No. 3 overall free agent in 2025. With the Eagles projected to have just $18.9 million in cap space and Sweat expected to command a three-year, $45 million deal, retaining him in Philadelphia appears unlikely.

PFN notes that a shortage of elite pass rushers in free agency increases Sweat’s value, especially given his impact on games. His impressive 16.8% tackle rate further enhances his status as the most well-rounded pass rusher available.
