The San Francisco Giants may be facing some unsettling news, as a recent rumor hints that first baseman could reunite with the Arizona Diamondbacks this offseason. The longtime Giants nemesis might be returning to the NL West for another go-round.
Giants fans hardly need reminding of how much damage Goldschmidt has done to their team over the years. Even at 38, he remains a relentless threat, and during his peak years in Arizona, he seemed to punish San Francisco every time he stepped to the plate.

SF Giants fans may have to deal with Paul Goldschmidt yet again
In 169 career games against the Giants, Paul Goldschmidt has been a nightmare for San Francisco pitchers, posting a .301/.403/.551 slash line with 32 home runs and 118 RBIs. His dominance was especially evident against Giants legend Tim Lincecum — going 15-for-28 with seven homers and 17 RBIs against “The Freak.”
While Goldschmidt’s All-Star days are behind him, he’s remained productive in recent seasons. In 2025 with the New York Yankees, he hit .274 with a .328 on-base percentage, .403 slugging, 10 home runs, and 45 RBIs, though his playoff appearances were limited.

Last offseason, there was some speculation that the Giants might pursue Goldschmidt as a short-term first-base solution before he signed with the Yankees.
San Francisco instead opened the year with Wilmer Flores and LaMonte Wade Jr. handling first base. When Wade struggled, the team pivoted — adding Dominic Smith, who proved to be a great fit, and later pulling off a blockbuster trade for Rafael Devers.
With Devers and Bryce Eldridge expected to anchor the infield in 2026, the Giants are set at first base and won’t be in the market for Goldschmidt.
The Diamondbacks, however, are rumored to be considering a reunion with their former MVP. That possibility alone is enough to make Giants fans uneasy — Goldschmidt has tormented them for years.
It was much more comfortable for San Francisco when he was tucked away in the AL East, where he could only do damage once a season. For their sake, the Giants will be hoping he lands anywhere but back in Arizona.
