Igor Shesterkin and the New York Rangers are currently in the midst of contract talks, and the goaltender recently declined an eight-year, $88 million offer.
While that figure is substantial, reports suggest that Shesterkin believes he can secure an even larger deal. Some estimates indicate that Shesterkin could command between $12 to $13 million per year, a staggering amount for a goalie. Despite this, there are teams willing to meet that price.
One such team is the Los Angeles Kings, who, according to Hockey Buzz, are ready to make a major move for Shesterkin if negotiations with the Rangers break down.

The Kings are reportedly preparing a significant trade offer and are eager to offer Shesterkin an eight-year extension. Though it’s not considered collusion, as teams frequently communicate with player agents, Shesterkin’s rejection of the Rangers’ mega-deal suggests he is aware of other teams willing to go higher.
While it’s likely that Shesterkin and the Rangers will eventually reach an agreement, Kings fans might still hold out hope for a blockbuster trade.
