ALLEN PARK — The Detroit Lions have added three more players for their season opener against the Los Angeles Rams. They have signed defensive tackle Chris Smith to the 53-man roster and elevated receiver Tom Kennedy and defensive tackle Kyle Peko from the practice squad.

It’s expected that the Lions would add another receiver, but the selection of Kennedy is somewhat surprising. Out of the four receivers currently on the 53-man roster, only Jameson Williams exceeds 6 feet in height.

The Lions were thought to be seeking more size at the position and had several options, including recent additions like Tim Patrick and Allen Robinson, along with Donovan Peoples-Jones remaining on the practice squad.
