Oklahoma has secured a commitment from one of the top dual-sport athletes in high school.

Oklahoma got great news on Tuesday afternoon when Alec Blair, the No. 39 player in the class of 2025, announced on the 247Sports YouTube channel that he will be joining Porter Moser and the Sooners for college basketball.

Blair, a 6-foot-6 small forward from Concord (Calif.) De La Salle, is also one of the top center fielders in the country and will play baseball at Oklahoma. Excited about the dual-sport opportunity, Blair had to choose between the Sooners, Texas A&M, and Arkansas, among others.

“Ultimately, it came down to the fact that they were willing to give me a chance to play both baseball and basketball in college and in the SE,” Blair told 247Sports. “Both coaching staffs are on board and want me to succeed in both. It was tough telling some schools no, as I’ve known these coaches since my freshman year and they hold a special place in my heart. However, I’m thrilled to be a Sooner. I love Norman, the school, and the people. I’m also a big fan of their strength coach and believe I will develop as an athlete and reach my ceiling. Playing both sports puts me in a unique category, and while it will be challenging, I believe OU is committed to making it work and I have full confidence in their plan and coaching staff.”

On the basketball court, Blair can play positions one through three. He plays point guard for his high school team, excels as a passer, and is a formidable scorer and slasher in transition. In baseball, he covers the field well and hits with power. Deciding between sports was tough for Blair, but he couldn’t see himself giving up either and is motivated to do what few have done.

“The most exciting thing is that not many people have this opportunity,” Blair said. “Everyone told me I couldn’t do both in college. I’ve been doubted my whole life and enjoy proving people wrong. From a young age, I learned that if you’re good enough, there’s always a way. I aimed to be so good in both sports that schools would have no choice but to let me chase my dream.”

Blair understands the challenge of playing overlapping sports and knows the history of others who have done it, including a Sooner legend.

“The biggest challenge is the sports overlap. I needed a school with a plan and coaching staffs that didn’t mind sharing my time. OU fit perfectly and convinced me it’s possible. Ryan Minor did the same thing I plan to do, which eased my mind. He recently passed away, so God bless his soul.”

Blair detailed his skills in both sports. For baseball, he said, “You’re getting a player with every tool. I have no limitations on the field, hit for both average and power, and field well. I’m coachable and haven’t fully grown into my frame yet, which excites people about my future.”

Regarding basketball, Blair added, “You’re getting a tall point guard who can play and guard all positions. I’m versatile, skilled on both offense and defense, often guard the opposing team’s best player, and get double-teamed on the other end. I have a strong midrange game, pass and rebound well, finish around the rim, and have improved my range.”

With his college decision made, Blair is focused on his senior year and preparing to contribute in both sports. He’s also looking forward to meeting Oklahoma fans.

“I feel amazing. Committing has lifted a huge weight off my shoulders,” Blair said. “To OU fans, I’m a competitor who wants to win and bring hardware to Norman. Off the field and court, I’m a cool guy with a sense of gratitude for life. I’m happy and play with joy and excitement. I’m Catholic and serious about my religion. I’m not perfect but always try my best in life and sports.”
