To commemorate the first season of girls’ flag football in Hawaii, the Seattle Seahawks are teaming up with the Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HHSAA) to host two flag football camps next weekend. Both camps are free and open to all high school girls enrolled in the 2024-25 school year.

These camps are part of a larger initiative by the HHSAA and the Hawaii State Department of Education to introduce girls’ flag football at the high school level. The Seahawks, along with the NFL, will sponsor the camps, which are aimed at securing grant funding for player and school equipment across the state.

“Our goal is to foster a love for flag football and give as many girls as possible the chance to play,” said Mario Bailey, Seahawks Vice President of Community Engagement and Legends (via Seahawks.com). “We are thrilled to support the HHSAA by offering these camps for free, ensuring there’s no barrier to participation. It’s a wonderful opportunity for girls to practice their skills or learn the basics in a fun and safe environment before Hawaii’s first high school girls flag football season begins.”

The first camp will take place on Saturday from 9AM-11AM HST at James B. Castle High School, with the second camp on Sunday at the same time at Pearl City High School. Registration is available here.

Last year, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) proposed making girls flag football a sanctioned varsity sport, but despite support from the Seahawks, it fell short by six votes.

Hawaii’s first girls flag football season will start the week of February 24, culminating in a state tournament at Mililani High School on Saturday, April 26.
