The New York Rangers are currently in their Stanley Cup contention window and should prioritize strengthening their roster for a championship run. As the offseason winds down, the chances of a major trade happening before the deadline are slim, though not entirely impossible. A fan, highlighted by Heavy, has suggested a mock trade that could enhance the Blueshirts’ lineup just in time for the new season.

Rangers send three NHL regulars and two draft picks to Minnesota in blockbuster mock trade

In this proposed trade, the Rangers would send Kaapo Kakko, Ryan Lindgren, and Jonny Brodzinski to the Minnesota Wild, along with a 2025 first-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick, which originally belonged to Minnesota.

Whether or not the trade materializes, Kakko’s future in New York seems uncertain. He has struggled throughout his career, and the Rangers may benefit from exploring stronger options for their third line.

Lindgren, on the other hand, would be a more difficult departure. Despite being a solid presence on New York’s top defensive unit, his history of injuries makes him a potential long-term risk, and the team could seek a safer option moving forward.

Rangers would acquire Jonas Brodin and Mats Zuccarello from Minnesota

In exchange for the proposed package to the Wild, the Rangers would bring back Mats Zuccarello and add elite defenseman Jonas Brodin, along with a 2025 second-round pick.

Zuccarello, now 37, spent the early part of his career with the Rangers and was a fan favorite before his departure. While older, he’s still highly effective, having scored 63 points in 69 games last season with Minnesota. His return would bolster the Rangers’ third line, likely replacing Kakko.

The centerpiece of this deal, however, is Brodin. Drafted 10th overall in 2011, Brodin, now 31, has developed into one of the NHL’s top defensive players. While not known for his offense, his ability to shut down opponents in the defensive zone is elite, making him an upgrade over Lindgren in the Rangers’ defensive lineup.
