Breaking News: “position worth taking” Giants latest mock draft lands superstars

The New York Giants are in need of a quarterback for the future. However, with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, they’re out of range to select Cam Ward, the top quarterback in this class, who many analysts believe is the only prospect worth a top-five pick.

Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders also has a strong case for a top-five selection, but his stock has dropped since the NFL Scouting Combine, with some projections now placing him outside the first round.

The Giants have an opportunity to acquire a veteran quarterback this offseason, as they are contenders for both Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson. If they land one of these veterans, they could focus on selecting the best player available at No. 3 instead of reaching for a quarterback. In this mock draft, they opt for that strategy and later address the quarterback position in the first round, achieving two goals with one move.

Mock Draft: Giants take the NFL Draft’s best prospect

Instead of reaching for Sanders at No. 3, the Giants land his teammate and the top prospect in the draft: Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter. The 2024 Heisman Trophy winner is widely regarded as the best player in this draft class.

Hunter made history in 2024 by not only winning the Heisman but also becoming the first player in college football to claim both the Chuck Bednarik Award (Defensive Player of the Year) and the Fred Biletnikoff Award (Wide Receiver of the Year). He amassed 1,258 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns on offense, while also contributing 11 pass defenses and four interceptions on defense.

The Giants need another dynamic playmaker to complement star WR Malik Nabers, and they could also use help in the secondary. Hunter’s ability to excel at both wide receiver and cornerback would give the Giants an impactful player on both sides of the ball. If he’s available at No. 3, Hunter would be an excellent pick and would fit well alongside a veteran quarterback like Rodgers or Wilson.

Giants trade up to land a quarterback in this mock draft

While drafting Travis Hunter at No. 3 would give the Giants a dynamic playmaker, it doesn’t address their long-term need at quarterback, even if they sign Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson. So, in this mock draft, the Giants make an aggressive move to trade back into the first round and make a second selection on draft night.

MOCK TRADE:

  • Giants receive: Pick No. 20
  • Broncos receive: Pick No. 34, Pick No. 65, and the Giants’ 2026 2nd-Round Pick

With the No. 20 overall pick, the Giants select Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders, reuniting him with his former teammate, Travis Hunter, and laying the foundation for a dynamic offense in the future.

Though Sanders has faced scrutiny as a prospect, there’s no denying his talent. In 2024, he threw for 4,134 yards with a 37-10 TD-INT ratio. His 74.0% completion rate led the nation, and his 71.8% career completion rate set an all-time FBS/Division 1-A record.

With an accurate arm, quick release, and the mentality to succeed in the Big Apple, Sanders fits the mold of the Giants’ next quarterback. His existing chemistry with Hunter, developed over their collegiate careers, could seamlessly translate to the NFL stage.

While this projection may seem like a long shot, the growing buzz around Sanders could lead to him slipping in the draft, making it more likely for the Giants to land both of these Colorado stars.
