The Philadelphia Phillies are on the brink of elimination, trailing 2-0 to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS. With their postseason hopes fading, the team may soon have to shift focus to offseason priorities.

One of the first tasks will be securing their core players. According to Bleacher Report’s Erik Beatson, that process should begin with extending J.T. Realmuto, whose leadership and chemistry with the clubhouse make him a key piece to retain.

Phillies solution to JT Realmuto's struggles isn't something he'll enjoy

“Realmuto is beloved in Philadelphia — a workhorse catcher and consistent presence both behind the plate and in the lineup,” Beatson wrote. “Since arriving from Miami in 2019, he’s been one of the most popular players on the roster. Unless another team overpays for his declining numbers and offers a better shot at a title, it makes sense for him and the Phillies to find common ground on a deal that keeps him in Philadelphia for the rest of his career.”

In 2025, Realmuto hit .257/.315/.384 with 26 doubles, 12 home runs, and 52 RBI across 134 games, continuing to provide steady offense and strong defense for a talented pitching staff.

If both sides are wise, they’ll aim for a reasonable, mid-length contract that allows Realmuto to remain in Philadelphia until he decides to retire — a fitting reward for a player who’s earned his place as a franchise cornerstone.
