In a significant development, Adams took a major step toward potentially joining the Chargers over the weekend, as it was reported that the Jets are officially shopping him on the trade market. This marks the first time it’s been confirmed that the Jets are open to fielding calls for the star wide receiver.

General manager Joe Hortiz now has the green light to start official conversations with the Jets regarding a potential trade for Davante Adams. However, these discussions should remain preliminary, as a trade might not be realistic in the current circumstances.
Even though the Chargers have cap space, Adams’ significant cap hit—especially with him being on the wrong side of 30—makes the move tough to pull off. Ian Rapoport, who broke the news about the Jets shopping Adams, also mentioned that if the team can’t find a trade partner for his $38.1 million cap hit, the most likely scenario is that the Jets release him.

Compared to other California teams, the Chargers stand out as the most appealing choice. The San Francisco 49ers, fresh off trading Deebo Samuel, aren’t in a position to pursue Adams either.
That leaves the Chargers, who could offer Adams a fair-market contract in the $15-20 million per-year range. With a star quarterback, a desirable location in California, and a system that fits Adams’ skill set alongside Ladd McConkey in the slot, it’s a promising fit.
