The Dodgers have signed right-handed pitcher to a minor league contract, as reported by MLB Trade Rumors’ Steve Adams. The deal includes an invitation to Los Angeles’ Major League Spring Training camp and offers a $2.5 million base salary if He makes the active roster, with up to $1.5 million in additional incentives. The contract also includes three opt-out dates, allowing He some flexibility if the Dodgers do not select his contract.

A veteran of eight MLB seasons, the 33-year-old has enjoyed an impressive four-year stint with the Cardinals from 2019 to 2022. During that period, he posted a 2.84 ERA, a 32% strikeout rate, and a 6.6% walk rate over 228 1/3 innings, earning a two-year, $11 million extension in October 2022. The deal covered his arbitration years and included a $6.5 million club option for 2025.

However, Gallegos’ performance declined in 2023, as his ERA rose to 4.42, his strikeout rate dropped, and his home run rate increased. His struggles continued in 2024, where he posted a 6.53 ERA over 20 2/3 innings, allowing six home runs in a small sample and displaying poor metrics overall.

A shoulder impingement kept him on the injured list for over six weeks, and the Cardinals eventually designated him for assignment. After electing free agency, Gallegos signed a minor league deal with the Twins but did not earn a Major League call-up, recording a 4.26 ERA with more walks (10) than strikeouts (8) in 12 2/3 innings at Triple-A St. Paul.

Despite his recent struggles, the Dodgers have a strong track record of helping pitchers rediscover their form or reach new heights. If their coaching staff can address Gallegos’ issues, he could become a valuable, low-cost addition to the Dodgers’ bullpen for 2025 and potentially contribute in late-game situations.
