As the NFL offseason begins, the Las Vegas Raiders have several key areas to address, with one need standing out above the rest—upgrading the quarterback position.

Fortunately, Las Vegas has multiple avenues to find their next signal-caller, whether through free agency, the 2025 NFL Draft, or a potential trade. With plenty of options available, the Raiders should be able to secure an upgrade under center.

Amid these possibilities, the team has been strongly encouraged to make a significant move at quarterback.

Las Vegas Raiders Urged to Make Massive Quarterback Move in 2025 Free Agency

The 33rd Team recently identified one free agent each NFL team should sign, and for the Las Vegas Raiders, they confidently named Sam Darnold as the ideal choice. They projected him to sign a three-year, $124 million contract.

“Selecting at No. 6 in the draft, the Raiders are unlikely to land Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders. Additionally, with Pete Carroll now at the helm, it doesn’t seem like he’ll be looking to develop a young quarterback. Sam Darnold is coming off the best season of his career and is still just 27,” they wrote.

“The Raiders will need to build a strong supporting cast around him, much like the Vikings did, but that shouldn’t be too difficult with players like Brock Bowers and Jakobi Meyers already in place. While Darnold isn’t a perfect solution, he would give the Raiders a competent quarterback in a division featuring Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, and Bo Nix.”

Darnold had an impressive season with the Minnesota Vikings in 2024, but there are lingering questions about whether he can sustain that level of play outside their system.

Despite the uncertainties, the Raiders need to make a move at quarterback, and Darnold presents one of the more promising risks they could take.

Last season with Minnesota, he played all 17 games, completing 66.2% of his passes for 4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He also contributed 212 rushing yards and a touchdown.

At just 27, Darnold still has the potential to be a long-term solution for whichever team signs him.

It remains to be seen what direction the Raiders will take, but Darnold is a player to watch closely in free agency.
