JUPITER, Fla. – St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn was scratched from Tuesday’s exhibition game against the Miami Marlins due to soreness in his right wrist.
Jose Barrero took Winn’s place in the Grapefruit League matchup, with the Cardinals’ regular-season opener just nine days away.
A 2020 second-round pick, Winn established himself as a key everyday player during his rookie season in 2024, hitting .267 with 15 home runs, 11 stolen bases, and 57 RBIs over 150 games. His strong defensive play also earned him a spot as a finalist for the NL Gold Glove Award, ultimately won by Colorado’s Ezequiel Tovar.
Winn underwent minor surgery in the offseason to remove a cyst from his hand. However, he has struggled at the plate in spring training, hitting just .098 (4-for-41) with 12 strikeouts over 14 games.
