New York Rangers Extend Chris Drury’s Contract as President and General Manager

The New York Rangers have officially extended the contract of Chris Drury, who will continue in his dual role as President and General Manager on a multi-year deal.

MSG Sports Executive Chairman and CEO James L. Dolan expressed his confidence in Drury’s leadership: “Chris has consistently shown passion, dedication, and a strong drive for excellence. Although last season didn’t meet expectations, I fully believe in his ability to lead us forward.”

Drury, a lifelong Rangers fan, shared his gratitude: “It’s an honor to continue leading this organization—one that means so much to me. Since I took on this role nearly four years ago, I’ve believed this team is something special. I’m excited to get to work this offseason and keep building toward our goals.”

Drury has held the President and GM titles since May 5, 2021, becoming the 12th person in franchise history to serve in each role. Under his leadership, the Rangers have gone 193-105-30 in the regular season—the highest win total across any four-year span in franchise history—and reached the playoffs three times.

They’ve also made two appearances in the Eastern Conference Final (2022 and 2024), posting 23 wins in 43 postseason games over the past three seasons—second-most among Eastern Conference teams during that span.

In 2023-24, the Rangers set franchise records with 55 wins and 114 points, earning the Presidents’ Trophy for the league’s best regular-season record. Drury was previously a finalist for the Jim Gregory GM of the Year Award after the 2021-22 season, when the team posted 52 wins and 110 points.

Before becoming GM, Drury worked in the Rangers’ front office for six years, beginning as Director of Player Development in 2015. He later became Assistant GM in 2016 and was promoted to Associate GM in 2021. He also oversaw the Rangers’ AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Drury has also held executive roles with USA Hockey, serving as GM for the U.S. Men’s National Team during multiple IIHF World Championships, including the bronze-winning 2021 squad. He recently helped prepare Team USA for the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off and serves on the U.S. Men’s National Team Advisory Group.

He won the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2001, earned the Calder Trophy as Rookie of the Year in 1999, and captained the Rangers from 2008 to 2011. His teams made the playoffs nine times, reaching the Conference Finals on six occasions.

During his collegiate career at Boston University, Drury won a national championship and numerous individual honors, including the Hobey Baker Award in 1998.

Internationally, he represented Team USA in three Winter Olympics, winning silver medals in 2002 and 2010, and was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015.
