The Red Sox and Twins finalized a trade on Christmas Eve, aiming to bolster Boston’s bullpen.
The Boston Red Sox announced a trade with the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday.
“Today, the #RedSox acquired LHP from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for C/INF Mickey Gasper. Boston’s 40-man roster now stands at 39,” the team shared on X, formerly Twitter.
This trade marks another move in what has already been a busy offseason for the Red Sox, highlighted by the acquisition of Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox. While the deal with the Twins is relatively low-profile, He has the potential to contribute to Boston’s bullpen in the future.
Morán, 27, is a left-handed reliever with 79 major league appearances. After making only five appearances in 2021, he emerged as a dependable option in 2022, posting an impressive 2.21 ERA over 31 games with Minnesota.
However, his performance dipped in 2023, where he logged a 5.31 ERA across 43 outings. Morán hasn’t pitched in the majors since the end of the 2023 season but could still play a role in Boston’s bullpen plans.

Improving the bullpen has been a key focus for the Red Sox, who have experienced inconsistency in their relief corps in recent years. In addition to Crochet, Boston also bolstered their starting rotation with the addition of Walker Buehler, signaling their commitment to strengthening their pitching staff.
As the offseason progresses, the Red Sox are likely to make further moves. After missing the postseason in 2024, the team is eager to return to contention in the competitive American League East. While they may not be viewed as serious World Series contenders for the 2025 season, the Red Sox appear to be assembling a more competitive roster. However, there’s still more work to be done.
