Georgia football may have stumbled in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff, but the Bulldogs continue to secure major recruiting victories. On Thursday, they landed a significant commitment, edging out Alabama and reigning national champion Ohio State in the process.

Four-star safety announced his verbal commitment to Georgia, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3.com. Fort revealed that the Buckeyes and Crimson Tide were among his top choices, with national runner-up Notre Dame also in the mix. However, in the end, the Bulldogs prevailed.

“Where Champions are made, Go Dawgs!” Fort told Fawcett.

His decision comes just a day after Georgia missed out on a key transfer portal target, as former Ohio State defensive tackle Hero Kanu chose Texas instead. Additionally, the Bulldogs recently lost former five-star edge rusher Damon Wilson to Missouri.

Fort, listed at 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds, plays for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida—a well-established pipeline for Georgia. The powerhouse prep program has produced several Bulldogs, including defensive backs Ellis Robinson IV and Daylen Everette. Former Georgia star and current Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Nolan Smith is also among IMG’s notable alumni.

Georgia and Kirby Smart loading up 2026 class vs. Alabama, Ohio State

Two-time national champion head coach Kirby Smart and Georgia are wasting no time in assembling their 2026 recruiting class, competing directly with powerhouse programs like Alabama and Ohio State in the battle for top-tier talent.

Zech Fort now stands as Georgia’s highest-ranked commit for 2026, according to 247Sports. The Bulldogs currently have three four-star prospects committed to their program.

In November 2024, Smart secured a commitment from wide receiver Vance Spafford out of Mission Viejo, California. That same month, Georgia added 6-foot-6 tight end Lincoln Keyes from Maline, Michigan to its class.

Georgia holds the No. 12 spot in the 2026 recruiting rankings, ahead of both Alabama and Ohio State. While these rankings will continue to fluctuate until the early signing period in December, the Bulldogs are maintaining their strong recruiting ties with IMG Academy by landing another high-profile four-star defender.
