The Ohio State football team, led by head coach Ryan Day, kicked off the week with a notable visit to Washington, D.C., where they were honored for winning the newly-expanded College Football Playoff National Championship.

Much of the media attention on Monday centered around that celebratory trip, and understandably so. Still, the Buckeyes made waves in the recruiting world as well, grabbing headlines with some significant developments.

Auburn makes move for 5-star Bralan Womack

Two top-tier prospects from the 2026 recruiting class announced key updates — including commitment dates and final school lists. Ohio State continues to build strong recruiting momentum, already boasting verbal commitments from 10 highly-rated prospects. The class features five-star wide receiver Chris Henry Jr. and standout safety Blaine Bradford, with hopes of adding even more elite talent.

One of those prospects is five-star safety Bralan Womack from Hartfield Academy in Flowood, Mississippi. On Monday, Womack revealed that he will announce his commitment on August 23. His final four choices are Auburn, Florida, Texas A&M, and Ohio State. While no clear leader has emerged, that could change after his round of official visits this summer.

Womack’s visit schedule includes Florida on May 30, followed by Texas A&M, Auburn, and lastly, Ohio State on June 20. Having the final visit could give the Buckeyes an edge in his recruitment.

According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Womack ranks as the No. 2 safety and the No. 26 overall prospect nationally. He’s also the second-highest-ranked recruit from Mississippi.

Later on Monday, five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell of Nixa, Missouri also set a commitment date — April 30. He’s down to four finalists: Miami, Georgia, Oregon, and Ohio State. However, unlike with Womack, the Buckeyes are considered a long shot.

Miami was seen as the early frontrunner for Cantwell, but Oregon has gained momentum this spring. Cantwell has several official visits lined up, including stops at Miami, Missouri, Georgia, Michigan, and Oregon. Notably, his visit to Oregon was rescheduled to April 26–27, just days before his decision — a move that strengthens the Ducks’ position.

Cantwell is currently ranked as the No. 1 offensive tackle, the No. 1 overall player nationally, and the top recruit out of Missouri in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. If he chooses any school other than Oregon, it would come as a surprise.
