It appears Rick Tocchet has filled one of his assistant coaching positions.

According to a report from David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Yogi Svejkovsky—who previously worked alongside Tocchet—is set to join the Flyers’ coaching staff. The 48-year-old spent the past three seasons coaching under Tocchet with the Canucks. During the 2024-25 season, Svejkovsky led Vancouver’s power play, which ranked 15th in the league with a 22.5 percent success rate.

If he’s assigned to oversee Philadelphia’s power play, Svejkovsky will be facing a significant challenge. The Flyers’ struggles on the man advantage have drawn increasing scrutiny.

Former assistant Rocky Thompson came under pressure for failing to improve the power play, which ranked last in the NHL at 14.1 percent over his three seasons. That figure was only slightly better than the league-worst 12.6 percent mark the team held before his tenure.

“The power play is definitely an area of concern, and I understand that,” Tocchet said during his introductory press conference last month. “It’s something we’re going to have to really address. I have some ideas, and we’re looking at some talented candidates. I also believe there are players here with strong offensive instincts—we just need to give them the freedom to be creative on the power play.”

Svejkovsky began his coaching career in the WHL at the junior level and also has experience coaching prep hockey. As a former NHL player, he appeared in 113 games, scoring 23 goals and adding 19 assists while playing for the Capitals and Lightning.

The Flyers are currently overhauling their coaching staff under Tocchet’s leadership, including hiring a new head coach for their AHL affiliate in Lehigh Valley.
