The Red Sox made a notable roster move on Monday morning, reportedly signing right-handed starting pitcher to a one-year deal. Yahoo Sports’ Russell Dorsey first broke the news, which was later confirmed by ESPN’s Jeff Passan. According to Dorsey, the contract is worth $21.05 million for 2025, including incentives.
His upcoming season in Boston will be his first full campaign since undergoing the second Tommy John surgery of his career. Despite the surgery, the 30-year-old made a significant impact for the Dodgers in 2024, playing a key role in their World Series victory.
He delivered a dominant playoff performance, pitching 10 scoreless innings across the NLCS and the Fall Classic, including closing out the championship game in New York.

A two-time All-Star during his time with the Dodgers, Buehler’s career-best season came in 2021 when he went 16-4 with a 2.47 ERA and finished fourth in NL Cy Young voting. He also earned Cy Young votes in 2019 after posting a 14-4 record and a 3.26 ERA.
The addition of Buehler is the second major pitching acquisition this offseason for Boston, who have been looking to strengthen their rotation. He is expected to slot in behind newly acquired ace Garrett Crochet.
