It has been just over seven weeks since the Seattle Seahawks wrapped up their 2024 season, and while roster moves have been minimal, there have been notable changes to the coaching staff.

Most significantly, the team replaced offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb with Klint Kubiak, who has quickly assembled assistants to help implement his system.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks aren’t the only team banking on coaching changes to drive improvement. The Cincinnati Bengals are reportedly set to hire former Pete Carroll assistant head coach Sean Desai from the Los Angeles Rams to assist new defensive coordinator Al Golden.

At first glance, Desai’s hire might seem like another case of teams prioritizing experience with Sean McVay’s coaching tree. However, the connections behind this move run deeper than that.

From 2006 to 2010, Desai worked under Golden at Temple in multiple roles, including graduate assistant, outside linebackers coach, and special teams coordinator.

Now, with Golden taking over as the Bengals’ defensive coordinator after three seasons in the same role at Notre Dame, he is bringing in a familiar face to help shape Cincinnati’s defense in 2025.
