After sitting out practices during Auburn’s bye week due to a shoulder injury, Payton Thorne is expected to start against Louisiana-Monroe, per a report from 247Sports.

Thorne injured his throwing shoulder in the second half of Auburn’s Nov. 2 loss to Vanderbilt. On Wednesday, head coach Hugh Freeze provided an update, saying Thorne “was not ready to play” as of Tuesday’s practice.

“Not as far along as I’d hoped, with the shoulder,” Freeze said during the SEC coaches teleconference. “He thinks he’s going to be fine, but he was not ready to play yesterday, for sure.”

Despite this, Thorne expressed optimism when speaking to reporters on Tuesday.

“I’ll be good to go. I trust the process we’re doing in the training room,” he said. “Knock on wood, I haven’t missed a game yet in my career. I don’t plan on doing that anytime soon.”

Freeze also revealed that the coaching staff had considered making a quarterback change for the season’s final three games during both the bye week and the following Monday.

“This is not an indication that I think he hasn’t been playing solid,” Freeze said Monday. “But you start thinking about the big picture. And that’s not always easy because you care about your players, want what’s best for them, and want to give your team the best chance to win the remaining three games.”

When asked on Tuesday, Thorne said he hadn’t discussed a potential change with the staff.

Auburn is set to face ULM on Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for 11:45 a.m.
