If the Atlanta Braves are serious about narrowing the gap between themselves and the National League’s top contenders, a former MLB executive thinks acquiring Him should be their top priority at the trade deadline.
Although the Braves had a slow start this season, they’ve shown improvement recently. With former MVP Ronald Acuña Jr. back from the injury that sidelined him for most of last year, there’s optimism they could build momentum. Still, the team has some glaring issues — especially at shortstop.
That’s why Dan O’Dowd, a former GM and current MLB Network analyst, believes Bichette could be a game-changing addition for Atlanta.
“They need a bat — but more specifically, that kind of bat,” O’Dowd said this week. “A high-contact hitter who doesn’t strike out much and uses the whole field. Their shortstop position has lacked offensive production for years. This is the type of move they need to finally fill that hole.”
He added that making a bold trade like this is essential if the Braves want to catch up to the elite teams in the NL.

While the former Executive of the Year acknowledges that a trade is probably unlikely, he points out that it’s largely because the Blue Jays appear fully committed to making a playoff push this season. However, the two-time All-Star and the team have yet to make any real progress on a new contract as free agency looms later this year.
Still, a trade can’t be entirely dismissed—especially if it becomes clear by July that the team won’t be a serious postseason contender.
O’Dowd also mentioned that Toronto might consider shifting Andrés Giménez to shortstop, which could open up second base for a prospect. Promising young talent Orelvis Martinez might be a candidate for that role.
