Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene, who is 23 years old, is set to be placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right hamstring strain. This injury comes at an inopportune time with the MLB Trade Deadline approaching on July 30th. In response, the Tigers have recalled utility player Ryan Vilade from Triple-A.

Tigers Breakout Player Riley Greene Goes on IL
Greene’s Successful Season

Before being sidelined by a hamstring injury, Greene was having a strong season, boasting a .264 batting average, 17 home runs, 51 RBIs, and 98 hits, with his 17 home runs leading the team. This injury is a major blow to the Tigers, who are striving for a Wild Card spot after a successful series against the struggling Toronto Blue Jays. Injuries have plagued teams across MLB this season, and the Tigers are no exception.
Greene ranks among the top five in the American League for OPS at .842, earning him his first All-Star selection and boosting his confidence. He also reached the 100-game milestone for the first time on July 24th. His career progress is notable: he hit four home runs in his rookie season, 11 in his second, and already has 17 this year, with more than half of the season still to go. Although his injury is a setback in what has been his best season yet, his career-high RBIs (51), improved strikeout rate (25.5%), and increased walk rate (11.9%) are encouraging signs for his future.
