An NBA executive predicts that the Brooklyn Nets will eventually trade Cameron Johnson, despite not being in a rush to do so. The Nets are in a rebuilding phase after trading Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks. According to the executive, “You don’t get the sense they’re eager to move him, but I think they’ll reach that point in the next few weeks or by the trade deadline. He’s a valuable player—he can shoot, he’s a solid defender, and he’s great in the locker room. Plus, his contract isn’t bad, so there will be interest if they decide to make a move.”

Nets' Cam Johnson feels 'good,' happy to string games together

In the 2023-24 season, Johnson played 58 games for the Nets, averaging 13.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.3 blocks, with shooting percentages of 44.6% from the field, 39.1% from three, and 78.9% from the free-throw line. The Nets acquired Johnson from the Phoenix Suns in the Kevin Durant trade during the 2022-23 season. At 28 years old, Johnson has career averages of 11.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.3 blocks with the Suns and Nets.

Johnson, who played college basketball at UNC, is set to earn $23.6 million next season after signing a four-year, $94.5 million contract with the Nets in July 2023. When asked about his future during NBA Summer League, Johnson said, “I’ll let whatever happens, happen. I think we have a good group in Brooklyn that can grow together. If I stay in Brooklyn, I’m all-in and excited to play and develop with this group. That’s where my focus is right now.”

The Los Angeles Lakers are among the teams reportedly interested in trading for Johnson. The executive added, “He’s the kind of player they’re looking for—someone who can shoot, especially a big guy who can shoot.”
