Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas recently shared his thoughts on trade rumors and discussed the possibility of being dealt before the 2025 season begins.
In 2023, Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas finished third in the American League Rookie of the Year voting after posting a .263 batting average with 24 home runs and 65 RBIs. Despite missing most of the 2024 season due to injury, Casas remains a promising piece of Boston’s future—at least for now.
With the return of Major League Baseball just a few months away, the Red Sox are reportedly looking to make another major move before the season begins. Rumors have circulated about the team potentially signing Alex Bregman or trading for Nolan Arenado, though the organization has dismissed these as mere speculation. Meanwhile, Casas acknowledged the ever-present possibility of being traded and shared his thoughts on the uncertainty surrounding his future.
Triston Casas discusses potential Red Sox trade
Christopher Smith of Mass Live recently shared comments made by Triston Casas at Fenway Fest this past Saturday. Casas expressed a desire to remain with the Red Sox long-term, though he acknowledged some uncertainty about his future this offseason.
“I feel like that’s part of the business of baseball—checking in on players, seeing what kind of value you can get back,” Casas said. “You never know what kind of haul you can get for a player or how much another organization values somebody. So it might be in the best interest to move myself or anybody really if there’s a good enough package. So I think checking in and other teams asking about me and whatever, I see it as a positive. Just that maybe somebody else sees value in myself as well.”
Casas elaborated that interest from other teams indicates his value and appreciates being seen as a desirable player. While he noted that he has been assured these trade rumors are not true, his focus remains on being ready to play major league games on March 28—regardless of the team he’s with.
If the Red Sox are pursuing a trade for Nolan Arenado, it’s possible Casas would need to be included in such a deal. Alternatively, Boston might consider trading Casas to address pitching depth. However, would moving a promising 25-year-old really be the best use of their resources?
Considering the concerns raised by Casas’ comments, Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow would be wise to publicly dispel any rumors about the young first baseman being on the trade block. Trading away a player with Casas’ potential, unless it’s for an extraordinary return, would seem short-sighted for Boston’s future.
