Breaking: Habs to immediately replace Patrik Laine with St. Louis Blues superstar

Following forward Patrik Laine’s knee injury, which will sideline him for 5 to 6 months, Kent Hughes is tasked with finding a replacement. While the solution might come from within the team, external options are also possible. Could the Montreal Canadiens’ GM reach out to the Anaheim Ducks to pursue Trevor Zegras again? It’s a possibility, but I wouldn’t bet on it for now.

Reinforcements to replace Patrik Laine via waivers?

If Kent Hughes is looking for a quick and cost-effective solution, this stage of training camp is when intriguing names start appearing on the NHL waiver wire.

Today’s list includes MacDonald (COL), Carrick, Dineen (EDM), Malott (LA), Boyd, Gaunce, Shore (MIN), Bailey, Schuldt (SJ), Alexandrov (STL), Barron, and Connauton (UT).

Among them, the standout name is Nikita Alexandrov from the St. Louis Blues, who’s available for free.

It’s worth noting that the Canadiens are one of the top five teams with the highest priority for waiver claims, which could be a strategic advantage for Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton. They’ve used this in the past, and with Laine’s injury, they may opt to do so again.

Alexandrov, 24, is a 6’1″, 177-pound forward from Germany. He was a second-round pick by the Blues in 2019 and has recorded 47 points in his last 49 AHL games.

Additionally, he has played over 50 games in the NHL.

More updates to come.

Would you take a chance on him?
