Former Los Angeles Dodgers catcher has signed a one-year deal with the Colorado Rockies, which includes a player option for the 2026 season. According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the contract guarantees $2.5 million for the 2025 season, with a $4 million option for 2026.
Drafted by the Dodgers in the eighth round of the 2013 MLB Draft out of the University of Georgia, Farmer initially played shortstop in college but was converted to catcher in the minor leagues.
Farmer made his MLB debut with the Dodgers in July 2017, appearing in 20 games that season and slashing .300/.300/.350 with six hits, one run, and two RBIs. In 2018, he played 39 games, hitting .235/.312/.324 with 16 hits, one run, and nine RBIs, while also spending time at third base.
After the 2018 season, Farmer was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in a deal that included Yasiel Puig, Alex Wood, Matt Kemp, and cash considerations. The Dodgers received Homer Bailey, Jeter Downs, and Josiah Gray in return. During his time with the Reds, Farmer transitioned back to the infield, playing primarily at shortstop and third base.
Farmer’s best season came in 2021 with Cincinnati, where he hit .263 over 147 games, recording 127 hits, 60 runs, 16 home runs, and 63 RBIs. Following the 2022 season, he was traded to the Minnesota Twins for Casey Legumina and later signed a one-year, $5.5 million deal with the Twins.
In 2024, Farmer appeared in 107 games for Minnesota, slashing .214/.293/.353 with 46 hits, 26 runs, five home runs, and 25 RBIs. After the Twins declined his mutual option for 2025, Farmer became a free agent, eventually signing with the Rockies.
