EDMONTON — The Edmonton Elks announced Wednesday that they have signed American defensive back JJ Ross to their practice roster.

Ross, a Cincinnati, Ohio native, played three seasons at Western Illinois University (2021-23), appearing in 30 games for the Leathernecks. During his college career, he recorded 113 total tackles, three interceptions, 18 pass deflections, and one forced fumble. In 2023, he was named to the Second Team Preseason All-MVFC by Phil Steele and was nominated for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

Before transferring to Western Illinois, Ross spent two seasons at Eastern Illinois University (2019-20), where he played in 18 games for the Panthers, accumulating 42 total tackles, four interceptions, and 11 pass deflections.

Ross also received a rookie minicamp invitation from the Detroit Lions in May.

The Elks will next take the field on Saturday, August 3, when they face the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Mosaic Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
