The 2025 free agency class is steadily expanding, with players like Denver Broncos’ Garett Bolles and Kansas City Chiefs’ Trey Smith expected to receive new contracts. One player to watch is Detroit Lions defensive tackle Alim McNeill.

The Lions are working on a contract extension for McNeill, as confirmed by general manager Brad Holmes. Although the team has recently focused on extending key offensive players, discussions regarding McNeill’s future are still in the early phases. Holmes mentioned that while negotiations haven’t intensified yet, both sides are aware of the mutual interest in securing a long-term deal.

McNeill had an impressive season last year, achieving career highs with 18 solo tackles, six sacks, and 23 quarterback hits in 13 regular-season games and three playoff appearances. The Lions have strengthened their defensive line with the addition of D.J. Reader and the return of Levi Onwuzurike, offering McNeill more support.

Despite the possibility of a new contract, McNeill remains focused on his on-field performance, leaving contract talks to his agents as he prepares for the upcoming season. With his current deal expiring after this season, McNeill’s main priority is team success rather than his contract situation.

Detroit Lions Defensive Tackle Alim McNeill Predicted To Get $90 Million Deal in 2025 Free Agency

As McNeill’s contract nears its end, the Detroit Lions will face a crucial decision. The defensive tackle’s standout performance and the high demand for skilled interior defenders make him a highly attractive free agent prospect.

A third-round pick from the Lions’ 2021 draft class, McNeill has become a key figure in Detroit’s defense, showing a strong commitment to winning and a drive to compete for a Super Bowl title. With free agency approaching, he’s poised to land a lucrative new contract, whether it’s with Detroit or another team eager for his talents.

According to an NFL analysis by Bleacher Report, McNeill is expected to secure a multi-million dollar deal next year. At 24, he offers the rare ability to plug gaps, shut down ball carriers, and pressure quarterbacks—skills highly sought after in the open market, especially with many top defensive tackles, like Cameron Heyward (36), Quinton Jefferson (32), and B.J. Hill (30), aging out.

However, McNeill must continue building on last season’s success and stay healthy, as he missed four games last season due to a knee injury. While he may not reach the annual figures of Christian Wilkins ($27.5 million) or Justin Madubuike ($24.5 million) due to their superior stats, the rising demand for quality defensive tackles keeps him close behind.

Projected Contract Value: Four Years, $90 Million.
