BREAKING: Colts Get Major Update on Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson Trade

The Indianapolis Colts have been exploring a potential trade for Trey Hendrickson.

The Indianapolis Colts have been intermittently linked to Cincinnati Bengals All-Pro edge rusher and 2024 sack leader Trey Hendrickson throughout the NFL offseason. However, according to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, the Bengals have now shut down trade discussions.

“My understanding of the Trey Hendrickson situation is that the organization and ownership are fully committed to keeping him and negotiating a new deal,” Schultz reported. “I don’t believe they have any intention of trading him, and after speaking with multiple sources, it’s clear they have decided a trade is completely off the table. That’s great news for Bengals fans.”

While this is a win for Cincinnati supporters, it’s disappointing for any Colts staff hoping to reunite Hendrickson with former Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.

Hendrickson had an outstanding 2024 season, recording 17.5 sacks, earning his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl selection, and receiving All-Pro honors. With him unavailable, Indianapolis will have to look elsewhere to bolster its pass rush.

That said, the Colts aren’t in a terrible spot at edge rusher. Kwity Paye, Laiatu Latu, Samson Ebukam, and Tyquan Lewis form a solid group that should fit well in Anarumo’s defensive system. Still, Indianapolis may need additional talent, which could come via free agency or the NFL Draft.

Paye has registered eight or more sacks in consecutive seasons and is a strong run defender. Latu is expected to take on a bigger role in his second year. Ebukam has shown the ability to be a disruptive force if he fully recovers from his Achilles injury. Meanwhile, Lewis provides reliable rotational depth and consistently pressures quarterbacks.

Although missing out on Hendrickson is unfortunate, the Colts should be able to manage. With the NFL Draft approaching and former edge rusher Dayo Odeyingbo signing with the Chicago Bears in free agency, it will be interesting to see how Indianapolis adjusts its roster in Anarumo’s first season.
