The NFL offseason is always unpredictable, with free agency and the 2025 Draft expected to bring plenty of surprises. Teams looking to reshape their rosters often have to make bold moves, and some decisions can be tough.
ESPN’s Aaron Schatz recently shared bold offseason predictions for every team and suggested that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers might consider cutting running back Rachaad White to free up cap space.
“The Buccaneers enter free agency with only $2.2 million in cap space. They need to make some room, and one way to do it is by moving on from White. The running back is entering the final year of his rookie contract, so releasing him would save $3.3 million in cap space with less than $250,000 in dead money,” Schatz explained.

Letting go of White would be a tough decision, given that he is a former third-round pick and just 26 years old. However, he was overtaken by rookie Bucky Irving last season and is expected to take a secondary role in the backfield moving forward.
Anthony Palacios of Last Word on Sports identified the Los Angeles Chargers as a potential landing spot if White were released.
“The Chargers will likely re-sign J.K. Dobbins, but Gus Edwards’ future is uncertain. Edwards resembled more of a journeyman while backing up Dobbins in Baltimore in 2023. Los Angeles should part ways with Edwards and bring in a more explosive option like White, who could be a reliable red-zone presence,” Palacios suggested.
While an intriguing possibility, several factors would have to align for this to happen. The Buccaneers may be reluctant to part with White for relatively minimal cap savings, and if he does hit the market, multiple teams would likely pursue him after he posted 990 rushing yards and six touchdowns in 2023.
The Chargers are expected to explore multiple ways to bolster their rushing attack in 2025, and if White becomes available, he could be an excellent addition to their backfield.
