Expectations for the St. Louis Cardinals were modest entering the season, but they opened strong, jumping out to a record well above .500 and briefly looking like contenders in the NL Central.
As the season wore on, though, the team slipped back into form and began resembling the version many predicted for 2025. Heading into Tuesday, they sit at 62-64—18 games behind the first-place Milwaukee Brewers and five games back in the wild-card race.

Crowds at Busch Stadium have reflected that disappointment. Attendance has lagged all year, with fans making it clear they want changes within the organization and a return to the franchise’s winning standard.
Cardinals’ Joe Strohm backs fans’ frustrations
The Cardinals’ front office has taken notice of the growing frustration among fans. Vice President of Ticket Sales Joe Strohm told Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that supporters are justified in choosing not to attend games.

“Fans are entitled to show their approval or disapproval, and we recognize the challenge of winning them back,” Strohm said. “In the entertainment business, you have to earn people’s discretionary income.”
Strohm acknowledged that fans don’t want to spend their money on a product that isn’t meeting expectations. With that in mind, the St. Louis front office faces a significant task this offseason to restore confidence and support.
