Since breaking into the majors in 2019, few have crushed baseballs with the same power as New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso.
With all due respect to Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani, Alonso belongs in that same elite class.

And while his recent comments sparked some uncertainty about his long-term future in Queens, there’s still a strong possibility the “Polar Bear” will remain with the Mets as he approaches free agency this offseason.
Alonso Predicted to Re-Sign With Mets
Fastball On SI’s Jackson Roberts recently projected what could happen with players holding contract options for the 2026 season, and he expects Pete Alonso to opt out of his current deal before re-signing with the Mets, who trail the Phillies by 12 games in the NL East.

Roberts noted, “There’s little question Alonso will turn down his $24 million player option. Without a qualifying offer tied to him this time, he’ll draw more interest than last offseason. While teams like the Mariners or even a surprise club like the Angels could make a push, Alonso prefers New York, so the Mets just need to match the competition.”
Alonso has continued to deliver at the plate in 2025, belting 34 homers with 117 RBIs while also becoming the franchise’s all-time home run leader last month.
