The Bulldogs aim to reclaim the top spot in the SEC.
The college football offseason is nearing its end as we reach mid-July. The new season kicks off in about six weeks, and fans everywhere are eagerly anticipating the start. Excitement is high, not only due to the upcoming games but also because the new EA Sports NCAA 25 video game was released on Monday. It’s a thrilling time to be a college football fan, especially for Georgia Bulldogs supporters, who have high hopes for the season ahead.
This upcoming season is significant for many reasons, including some major changes in the sport. Let’s delve into what those changes are.

First, there are new rules being introduced this year, and not all fans are happy about them. The most notable is the introduction of the two-minute warning. Fans are already frustrated with the abundance of commercials in today’s college football, and the two-minute warning is seen as another opportunity for TV networks to insert more ads.
The more substantial changes involve conference realignment and the expanded College Football Playoff. College football will look dramatically different next year due to these developments. For instance, California schools will be competing in the Atlantic Coast Conference, signaling significant shifts.
Conference realignment has dramatically altered the landscape of college football. The Pac-12 is essentially defunct, with all teams except Oregon State and Washington State moving to new conferences. These two schools have formed scheduling alliances with the Mountain West.
Other Pac-12 schools have found new homes: Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and Arizona State are now part of the Big 12; Oregon, Oregon State, USC, and UCLA have joined the Big Ten; and Cal and Stanford have moved to the ACC, an unexpected shift.
In the SEC, Oklahoma and Texas are leaving the Big 12 to join this powerhouse conference. The Big Ten and the SEC are now loaded with top teams, on the brink of forming two super conferences.
This season also marks the expansion of the College Football Playoff to 12 teams, extending the playoff period to about a month. While some are against this significant expansion, it means more high-profile games, which is exciting for many fans.
Overall, this season promises to be one of the most monumental in college football history. The game is evolving, and this season marks the beginning of a new era.
Georgia football is looking to get back on top
Georgia football clinched the national championship in both 2021 and 2022. However, after a loss to Alabama in the SEC title game, they missed out on the College Football Playoff. The Bulldogs were undefeated at 12-0 and ranked #1 before that narrow defeat, which dropped them out of the top four. In a different year, their strong resume might have been enough, but not this time.
Subsequently, Georgia played in a notably dismal Orange Bowl against Florida State, who also barely missed the playoff despite a perfect 13-0 season and an ACC title. Both teams were disappointed to be there, yet Georgia dominated, crushing the Seminoles 63-3. This performance showcased that the Bulldogs were the best team excluded from the playoff, likely better than some who made it.
With a new season approaching, Georgia aims to reclaim the pinnacle of college football. Michigan currently holds the title after defeating Alabama and Washington in last year’s CFP, but the Bulldogs are favored to win it all this season.
First and foremost, Georgia must focus on conquering the SEC before eyeing the national championship. They are the top contenders for the conference title, and here are three reasons why they are poised to achieve it.
Carson Beck
Having your quarterback return is always significant, and Georgia football will have theirs back next season. Carson Beck will once again be at the helm for the Bulldogs, and he’s poised to be one of the top QBs in college football. This year is relatively weak in terms of quarterback talent, giving Beck a great opportunity to make a name for himself. He holds the second-best odds for winning the Heisman, just behind Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel. Beck has the potential for a remarkable season and can lead Georgia to great achievements.
Defense
As the saying goes, defense wins championships, and Georgia football has maintained one of the top defenses in college football over the past few years. This trend isn’t going away. Kirby Smart has built something remarkable in Athens, and they continually reload their roster with top-tier talent year after year, consistently out-recruiting most other programs. Their defense will once again be tough and aggressive, making it difficult for opponents to score heavily against them. With that strength alone, the Bulldogs can compete with any team.
No more Nick Saban
Just when Georgia football believed they had finally surpassed Nick Saban and Alabama, Saban spoiled their season by defeating them in last year’s SEC championship. For over 15 years, Saban and the Crimson Tide have dominated the SEC, but the Bulldogs have clearly made significant progress in recent seasons. Then, Saban retired after last year. Now, Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs are perfectly positioned to take over the SEC and potentially embark on a dominant run similar to Saban and Alabama’s. They need to ensure it begins this year.
