Forward Kailer Yamamoto would be an excellent fit with either the Carolina Hurricanes or the Colorado Avalanche.
Both the Carolina Hurricanes and Colorado Avalanche are solidly positioned as Stanley Cup contenders. The Avalanche’s core from their 2022 championship run is still largely intact, and as long as Nathan MacKinnon continues to dominate the league, they’ll remain in the mix. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes boast one of the league’s most effective systems under head coach Rod Brind’Amour, with their young core poised to make significant strides.

Despite their strong rosters, both teams have fallen short in recent seasons and faced substantial changes this summer. The Hurricanes recently announced that veteran forward Jesper Fast underwent surgery and is expected to miss the entire season. The Avalanche are still waiting for captain Gabriel Landeskog to return from a knee injury that has kept him sidelined for nearly two years and are also searching for a replacement for troubled forward Valeri Nichushkin.
Both teams could use reinforcements, and forward Kailer Yamamoto, a former first-round pick of the Edmonton Oilers, could be an ideal fit. Last season with the Seattle Kraken, he struggled, playing 59 games and recording just eight goals and 16 points.
At 25, Yamamoto still has potential, having recorded three seasons with 10 or more goals, including a 20-goal season in 2021-2022. He struggled to find a consistent role with the Kraken, but when given 16 minutes or more of ice time per game, he has shown the ability to produce as a middle-six forward. Over his 303-game NHL career, he has tallied 58 goals and 134 points.
The Hurricanes and Avalanche, both dealing with cap constraints, could benefit from Yamamoto’s versatility. He’s looking for a new opportunity and is eager to prove himself as an NHL-caliber player. Don’t be surprised if Kailer Yamamoto ends up wearing a Hurricanes or Avalanche jersey this season.
