In the United Football League’s college draft on Wednesday, only one of the 80 selections came from an Alabama college. The Houston Roughnecks chose Auburn guard Kam Stutts at No. 18, making him the second pick in the third round. Stutts, a three-year starter at guard for Auburn, was a two-time All-State selection at Brooks High School in Killen.

The Memphis Showboats kicked off the draft by selecting Kansas quarterback Jason Bean. The Roughnecks picked Charlotte defensive end Eyabi Okie at No. 2. Okie, who made the SEC All-Freshman team as an Alabama linebacker in 2018 under the name Eyabi Anoma, later played at Houston, UT Martin, Michigan, and Charlotte following his dismissal from the Crimson Tide program.
As the reigning league champion, Birmingham had the last pick in each round. The Stallions focused on their offense, drafting four offensive tackles, including Wyoming’s Frank Crum in the first round, along with two wide receivers, a quarterback, a running back, and a tight end. Their sole defensive selection was Arkansas defensive end Trajan Jeffcoat in the sixth round.
To be eligible for the UFL Draft, prospects needed to be eligible for the NFL Draft held on April 25-27. Although they were not selected in April, many players picked on Wednesday had signed with NFL teams as rookie free agents in May. All 10 of Birmingham’s picks are currently on NFL rosters with training camps starting this week. Top pick Crum is with the Denver Broncos, while their ninth-round quarterback choice, Notre Dame’s Sam Hartman, is with the Washington Commanders.
