The Los Angeles Rams knew they had to work out a new contract with Kyren Williams after he emerged as Sean McVay’s most effective running back since Todd Gurley. General Manager Les Snead finally brought the situation to a close by securing the former Notre Dame standout with a new deal.
Williams inked a three-year, \$33 million extension, ensuring his place in L.A. for the foreseeable future while ranking him as just the seventh-highest-paid running back in the league. The contract seems to be a smart move for both the player and the team.

However, while this is good news for the Rams and their supporters, not everyone in the locker room is likely celebrating. Rookie running back Blake Corum may see his chances of making a major impact take a hit.
Corum was already expected to have a limited role in an offense clearly committed to feeding Williams the ball. With this extension in place, any realistic opportunity for Corum to eventually become the team’s lead back may now be off the table.
Rams’ Kyren Williams contract extension is bad news for RB Blake Corum
Although Blake Corum racked up over 2,700 rushing yards and 45 touchdowns in his final two seasons at Michigan — including an impressive 27-touchdown final year — NFL teams were hesitant to invest in a 5-foot-8, 200-pound back lacking top-end speed and the physical power to consistently break tackles at the pro level.

Heading into the season, Corum was already expected to play a backup role behind Kyren Williams, limiting his opportunities. Last year, Corum logged just 57 carries for 206 yards and failed to score a touchdown. His highest single-game workload was eight carries, most of which came in games that were already out of reach.

The Rams then selected Auburn running back Jarquez Hunter in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and he’s been a standout in training camp. If Hunter impresses head coach Sean McVay more than Corum, Corum’s future in Los Angeles could be in jeopardy.
While he might settle in as the primary backup to Williams, the emergence of Hunter and Williams’ long-term contract make it difficult to see Corum getting meaningful playing time unless injuries strike.
