As summer heats up, both the San Francisco Giants and Seattle Mariners remain in the thick of the playoff race and are expected to be buyers at the upcoming MLB trade deadline. While no trades are currently in motion, both clubs are reportedly monitoring two National League hitters closely.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Giants and Mariners have their eyes on Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor and third baseman Eugenio Suarez. Although Arizona hasn’t officially indicated a willingness to sell, interest from other teams is growing.

Josh Naylor, a left-handed bat, could be a strong addition for the Giants. He’s slashing .300/.353/.474 with an .826 OPS, 9 home runs, and 48 RBIs over 260 at-bats this season. San Francisco’s first base production has been underwhelming, ranking 22nd in OPS (.649) and 26th in batting average (.211).

Their overall offensive numbers aren’t much better—25th in team batting average (.233) and 23rd in slugging percentage (.376) over 71 games. Naylor, who is earning $10.9 million in his contract year, wouldn’t block top prospect Bryce Eldridge from taking over first base in 2026, and being a rental makes him a likely affordable target.

Eugenio Suarez, who is also in the final year of his contract with a $15 million salary, would bring much-needed right-handed power to Seattle’s lineup.

Mariners third basemen have posted a weak .617 OPS (22nd), with only 2 home runs (28th) and 21 RBIs (28th) across 69 games. Suarez, meanwhile, is hitting .231/.307/.517 with an .824 OPS, 20 home runs, and 55 RBIs in 255 at-bats. Seattle is already familiar with what he brings—during his time with the team from 2022 to 2023, Suarez hit 53 homers and drove in 183 runs in 312 games, with a .751 OPS. Adding him could boost Seattle’s efforts to compete with the Astros for the AL West title.
