Seattle Mariners starter Logan Gilbert hasn’t taken the mound since April 25 due to an elbow injury that sidelined a key piece of Dan Wilson’s rotation for over six weeks. After making his final rehab start with Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, Gilbert confirmed he’ll make his next appearance in the majors. His return is a boost for a Mariners team currently sitting in second place in the AL West.

To make room on the roster, Seattle recalled Zach Pop from Triple-A, replacing Logan Evans. The moves bring the 40-man roster to 39 players, leaving an open slot—likely reserved for Gilbert. In his last rehab outing, the All-Star threw six shutout innings and completed a bullpen session before the Mariners’ matchup with the Cleveland Guardians.

Swapping Evans for Pop is significant too, as Wilson has been looking for bullpen help all season. While Matt Brash and Andres Muñoz have held down the late innings effectively, the manager continues to seek more depth for relief support.

Gilbert’s return bolsters a rotation in need of a steady third arm. Bryan Woo and Luis Castillo have performed well, but additional support is needed. George Kirby has been underwhelming since returning, and Bryce Miller remains on the injured list.

These roster adjustments come at a pivotal time in the season. The Mariners hold a 33–34 record entering their series against the Guardians on Friday. With both the Astros and Angels heating up, the Mariners are in a tight race in the AL West.

Seattle is counting on Gilbert and Pop to help stabilize the team after a rough patch. Though strong individual performances sparked their early-season success, it’s now up to Wilson and his pitching staff to provide the support needed to keep the Mariners in the playoff hunt.
