Seattle Mariners To Cut Ties With Dominant $7.6 Million Ace Logan Gilbert, To Acquire More Hitting

The Seattle Mariners might finally break into the postseason this year. Their pitching remains among the league’s best, and now they’ve added a capable offense to go with it. With such a deep starting rotation, the team has reportedly considered trading one of its pitchers to boost the lineup.

But which arm would be on the move?

According to ESPN’s David Schoenfield, the Mariners might even explore the idea of trading their ace, Logan Gilbert, to strengthen their offense.

“In fact, the toughest decision for president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto may be figuring out the real issue: is the team lacking offense or actually in need of more pitching?” Schoenfield wrote.

“If the team falters, Gilbert — unlike Julio Rodríguez and Cal Raleigh — hasn’t signed a long-term extension. With two years of team control left, a clean bill of health, and a stellar start to 2025, he’d command a massive return.”

Gilbert’s lack of an extension and apparent disinterest in signing one could make him the most likely candidate to be moved. And from a trade value perspective, Gilbert would bring back the biggest haul — likely including multiple top-tier prospects and established major league talent.

While dealing him might seem unlikely, it could be the bold move Seattle needs if they’re serious about adding impact bats to their lineup.
