Despite a strong season, St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Lance Lynn is headed to the 15-day IL due to inflammation in his right knee. Lynn, who has been managing a knee injury, delivered a solid performance against the reigning World Series champion Texas Rangers last night, pitching five innings and allowing just one run. According to Katie Woo of The Athletic, Lynn was seen walking with a “pretty noticeable limp” following his historic win on Tuesday. The veteran pitcher has now become the 23rd to notch a victory against all 30 MLB teams.

Cardinals Place Lance Lynn on 15-Day IL with Knee Inflammation
The 37-year-old Lance Lynn has been a valuable addition to the Cardinals’ rotation since rejoining the team in the offseason. A two-time All-Star, Lynn has started 21 games for St. Louis, posting a 4.06 ERA with 97 strikeouts over 106 ⅓ innings. According to MLB.com’s John Denton, Lynn realized the severity of his knee injury as he limped around the clubhouse, though it remains unclear whether he has undergone any imaging tests. Despite the uncertainty, the Cardinals are hopeful that Lynn can recover through rest and rehabilitation. His injury is just the latest setback for a Cardinals rotation that had been down to four starters at one point. Erick Fedde, a newly acquired right-hander who has been enjoying a resurgent season with a 3.11 ERA in 21 starts for the Chicago White Sox, will take over Lynn’s spot in the rotation.
#STLCards manager Oli Marmol said Lance Lynn has been dealing with inflammation in his right knee over his past two starts. The club thinks rest — and not surgery — should help cure the pain in the knee.

On Tuesday, the Cardinals promoted pitching prospect Michael McGreevy, who made his MLB debut on Wednesday. Although reliever Andre Pallante was expected to return to the bullpen, Lynn’s absence might prompt manager Oliver Marmol to keep Pallante in the rotation.
Along with placing Lynn on the 15-day injured list, the Cardinals made several roster moves on Wednesday. Right-hander Chris Roycroft was optioned to Triple-A Memphis, while right-hander Ryan Loutos was called up. To clear space on the 40-man roster, right-hander Jacob Bosiokovic was designated for assignment.
