JUST IN: Chargers Received More Heart-Breaking News On Elite Receiver’s Trade Market

The San Francisco 49ers’ relationship with star wide receiver has been anything but smooth. Their rocky history dates back to 2022 when a heated contract dispute led Him to request a trade.

Although the two sides eventually reached an extension, tensions resurfaced this past season when Samuel voiced his frustrations on X (formerly Twitter), complaining about his lack of involvement in the offense.

Speculation about another fallout became reality earlier this offseason when He once again requested a trade. Unlike last time, the 49ers have decided to honor his request, granting him permission to seek a deal elsewhere.

Many expected the Los Angeles Chargers to be strong contenders for Samuel, given their glaring need at wide receiver. However, in a surprising development, Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports reported that at least four teams have inquired about Samuel—but the Chargers were not among them.

Despite being linked to wide receivers in both the trade market and the draft, the Chargers appear to be taking a more conservative approach to roster-building. Reports from the Scouting Combine indicate they are unlikely to pursue high-priced free agents, a strategy that may extend to trades as well.

While Samuel remains a recognizable name, his production has declined. He hasn’t reached 1,000 receiving yards in three consecutive seasons and struggled late in 2024, surpassing 25 yards just once in his final seven games. Given these concerns, his trade value remains uncertain, and teams may be hesitant to engage in a bidding war.

For the Chargers, sitting out of the Samuel sweepstakes could be a smart move. Instead of trading for a declining asset, they could find better value in free agency or the draft. Regardless of their approach, Los Angeles has plenty of opportunities to upgrade its receiving corps with more cost-effective and productive options.
